The colour is a deep garnet with purple hues.
The nose is richly layered with blackberry, cherry, mocha, cardamom, vanilla and earthy loam. The mouth filling palate has generous fine tannins and bright acidity giving a long mineral finish.
Rich red fruit with a distinctive earthiness gives the wine an exotic flair. While seductive as a young wine, the balance of fine tannin and apt acidity are the hallmarks of a wine that will age beautifully.Buy Now
With the discovery of gold in Central Otago, by 1869 over 2000 Chinese miners had come to a land they called the 'New Gold Mountain'.
In a region known for its harsh conditions, these miners lived impoverished lives in a goldfield settlement that became one of our country's richest mines.
China Girl Pinot Noir was created to honour the hardworking spirit of the Chinese miners of this great region.
Our grapes are hand-picked from a parcel of designated land on 'Chinaman's Terrace', Bendigo Hill, bringing you the new 'liquid gold' of Central Otago.Buy now
An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines
Scented, fruity wine with typically ripe Bendigo character suggesting plum, dark cherry, spice, anise and raspberry with plenty of spicy oak influence. The ink-like texture is also very Bendigo. Dense but quite ethereal. Better with a little bottle age.
Hand-picked on Chinaman's Terrace, at Bendigo, and matured for a year in French oak casks (30 per cent new). Deep ruby, it is fragrant, mouthfilling and vibrantly fruity, with ripe plum and spice flavours, showing excellent concentration, fresh acidity, good complexity and a lasting finish. Still very youthful, it's a savoury, well-structured red with obvious potential; open 2020+.
A delightfully expressed pinot; the inviting bouquet shows dark cherry, plum, clove and toasted almond characters with a touch of game complexity. The palate is beautifully weighted and rounded, and delivers excellent fruit intensity and purity, wonderfully complemented by stylish oak infusion and fine tannins.
Very long on the finish with lovely complex flavours.
5 Stars (19/20)
Very dark, deep, purple-hued black-red colour, a little lighter on the rim, youthful in appearance.
The nose is very firm and concentrated with aromas of black cherry and black berried fruits, melded with mineral notes, unfolding dark raspberries, dark herbs, nuances of liquorice and violet floral detail.
Medium-full bodied, this has a bright, lively and vibrant core of ripe black cherry and berry fruit, expressed with lovely richness and lusciousness.
Flavours of dark herbs and beautiful violet florals unfold from the heart. The fruit and mouthfeel is enhanced by crisp and brisk acidity, and the palate features fine-grained tannin extraction and grip. The fruit core is carried by the structure to a long, firm, fine-textured lingering finish.
This is a bright, lively, refreshing black cherry and berry fruited Pinot Noir with rich and luscious fruit along with herb and floral detail on a fine-grained palate.
Match with lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 6-8 years.
